Amazing food! Very nice atmosphere! Service could be a bit faster, but i am satisfied with my meal and service!

I would give negative stars if possible!!! I feel I need to disclose information about this local business and their unprofessional behavior. To begin with this involves my 1 year old daughters first birthday. An event that I was looking forward to and planned for over a month. I drew a picture of a pink owl to be used on greeting cards, envelopes, party cups, hats and a banner. As well as designing a cake, and smash cake. I also made a dress especially for the occasion. As the cake is the center piece of the birthday party of course I wanted that to be special too. So I took my design to a local bakery in Clarinda IOWA. #Downright Delicious bakery. I spoke to the manager and baker about what I wanted. The baker said she could do it, but would not do a gel picture print out of what I had drawn, but instead would draw it herself with frosting. The price quote $60 for a quarter sheet cake and a 6” smash cake and an additional $15 for the cookie and cream filling I ordered as well as $15 a dozen for sugar cookies shaped like owls. I was somewhat worried but went through with it as I wanted my daughters first birthday to be special. The Friday before my daughters Saturday afternoon party I went in to pic up the cake, as they would be closed the day of the party. To say the least, I was disappointed, the owls looked like Furbies and the frosting colors were off. Where I requested pink piping it was brown. But rather than turning and walking out I went ahead and paid, took it home and put it in the refrigerator as directed by the manager(whipped frosting melts) for the party the next day. Hoping that for $105 in total that it would taste at least good. I was holding the birthday girl while she played in her smash cake, and the next thing I know my husband shoves a bite in my mouth and said taste it its salty. I hadn't tried it I was busy helping the baby. One by one my Family and friends started saying yes....Its very salty. No one could eat it we scraped it all back into the box. My husband contacted the manager. She said to set aside a piece and bring it in that they would remedy the problem, but they wouldn't be open till Tuesday after memorial day. I saved the whole mess for them. Cookies and all. I made my husband go over to hyvee and he brought back cheesecake and strawberry pie. I went out to my truck and cried...... Come Monday the baker herself text my husband to not bother coming in, because “you wont see one damn cent for that cake”. And it has escalated from there. I just want to let anyone who decides to patronize this business of just what to expect. She has since accused us of tampering with the cake as well in a phone conversation with my husband.
